Los tres escuchábamos un montón de música, entonces era como "okay so we all like New Order right? ok that’s fine... what else have you got?" A Clint le gusta The Gun Club y The Pet Shop Boys, a Felix le encanta Velvet Underground y The Beach Boys y a Phillip Digs Scott Walker y Belle and Sebastian.

How did Mode Moderne get started?
Clint had been playing in and writing with a handful of vancouver garage bands and he had this idea of striking it rich by recording this stupid song about some girl who stole his Casio keyboard... he was hoping that the song would be a massive club hit and he would be able to retire to a villa in some country where the natives ate only ice cream...
But the song was a failure so he still has to go to the store like the rest of us...
Did the musical scene in Vancouver help you define your own style? How come?
Not really, I mean we could list 20 great vancouver bands that are worth checking out but we dont sound like any of them...
You are assigned influences from The Smiths and Joy Division. What do you think of this statement?
Sure, we love those bands, obviously, but everybody does right? I mean you'd have to be a troglodyte not to right?
Can you tell us other important influences in your work?
The important thing about this band, especially at the start when it was just Felix, Phillip and Clint, was not so much our mutual influences but our differences in taste... the three of us listen to a lot of music so it was like "okay so we all like New Order right? ok thats fine... what else have you got?"... and Clint is really into The Gun Club and The Pet Shop Boys and Phillip Digs Scott Walker and Belle and Sebastian and Felix loves Velvet Underground and The Beach Boys... so whats so exciting is that we can do whatever we want...
You recently re-released your album Ghosts Emerging and released two new singles Real Goths and Undiscovered Country. How was the production of these projects?
Felix does all of the recording for the band at his studio so basically if anything sounds good or bad you can blame it on him... but seriously having access to that type of equipment and having a clubhouse where we can hangout and do drugs is a big part of why this band sounds the way it does...
Can we expect a new album soon?
Weve just finished recording enough material for a EP or a short LP depending on who you ask... We still have to mix it and fiddle and fuss etc. Look for a record to come out before the end of the year for sure!
Do you have an international tour scheduled?
Care to donate your frequent flyer points?
Our readers would like to see you perform, what do you think of a trip to South America?
If we can crash on your couch... honestly we would love too!
Hey you! Yeah you! Mode wants to come to your town and sleep on, around, or under your couch!
Just to finish, what projects do you recommend for our readers to listen to?
Clint: Dizzy Eyes (Vancouver band, former Mode bass player, now on Hardly Art)
Rebecca: Medication & Washed Out
Felix: Josef K (yesterday) Grave Babies (tomorrow)
Phillip: Tigertrap (yesterday) Brave Irene (tomorrow)
Sean: Arvo Pärt
